Counterpoint NP 220 Hybrid Tube 420 Watt Stereo Amplifier

This amp is built like a tank but the performance and sound is like a Ferrari. If you have a speaker that is hard to drive this amp will do it all the way down to 2 ohms. Audiophile Sound Quality. This hybrid gives you the best of both tubes and solid state amps. Small chip on the side of the face plate, see the photos with the blue tape to mark it, also there is some discoloration on the heatfins.
For appearance reasons the amp is listed as a 7 out of 10 but for performance it is a 10. Tubes: 2 x 6SN7, 1 x 6CA4 (EZ81)

At 220 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 420 wpc into 4 ohms and over 600 watts bridged, it is a powerful and flexible amp that sounds amazing. The massive Plitron transformer and the massive capacitors and transformer in the power supply create the power and the finesse that this amplifier delivers. Below within the quotes is the original ad as listed by the seller when I bought it. The photos prove that these upgrades were done. One of the photos that shows the copper color circle on the bottom of the amp proves the amp has the copper clad chassis. Yes this is an original SA 220 with the copper clad chassis. The following upgrades have been done: Premium Rebuild ($3800.00), Option Plitron Choke ($375.00), Option Upgrade Cardes speaker Terminals ($240.00), Option Balanced Inputs XLO ($190.00), Option Upgraded Inputs RCA Connectors ($90.00), and Custom Mod to removable power cord ($150.00). I will also include a PS Audio Prelude power cord 2 meter ($150.00). I have invested a total of $4995.00 in this unit in upgrades alone, not including the basic amp itself. Just back from Alta Vista Audio for small service and recalibration ($275.00)" That's right $5,000 in upgrades plus the Prelude power cord which was an additional $150, plus the original price of the stock amplifier before the Mods and Upgrades. Other models of Counterpoint amps known for Mosfets burning out are resolved because the NP upgrades replace the Mosfets with Bipolar Transistors which do not have this problem. "I see I am a bit late posting about a Counterpoint SA-220 and what is now a NP-220. I have been busy listening and not reading audio blogs. It has been a rock solid amp providing organic, emotional content through the loudspeakers. I could never overdrive the amp and it has provided 22+ years of service. When it changed from mosfet to bi-polar outputs the bass tightened up and the overall sound sobered up some, but as has been spoken before, it always sounded best when it was well warmed up. To sum up, my wife (a non performance audio type) plays her music with friends in the room louder then polite company would approve of because the music is so involving and all the women appreciate that. That spells it out for me." I will include 2 extra 6SN7 tubes with the amp. Since I'm new to AA I have no feedback, check my 100% positive feedback on Audiogon, check under wwwest the same user name as on AAT.
