After a pause of a few years, I have decided to return to my favorite hobby: audio.

If you are looking for high value power cords, you are at the right place. Prior to making recommendations, tell me about your audio system, the component for which you want a new cord and the important audio aspects you would like to improve in a prioritized order.

Customer satisfaction is a PRIORITY. If you are not fully satisfied, return the product(s) within the 30 days to get a full refund (except return shipping costs). Custom lengths available on request

Asylum II Power Cord : great musicality at a budget price

(US $56 for a 6’ length ; custom lengths available +/- $5 per foot)

(Pass&Seymour 5266 X plug now upgraded)

If you’re interested in exploring the benefits of upgrading your stock power cords at a reasonable cost, read on…

I handcraft power cords based on Bob Crump’s highly regarded recipe (see Audio Asylum). Quality components are used throughout: Belden cable, upgraded Schurter IECs, upgraded Pass & Seymour plugs; plug contacts treated with Caig Pro Gold; silver contacts treated with a silver lube.

The Asylum II power cord is an improved version of the original Asylum cord similarly balanced but with a better quality bass, a more detailed mid and a slightly smoother and more refined top end. It is an amazing budget cord which performs especially great with refined audio component slightly on the full and rich side like British and tube gear.

This cord is 100% shielded so there is no need for RFI/EMI noise blockers. The shielding and insulation, combined with a premium Pass & Seymour plug now with silver-plated lead (+) and polished brass neutral (-) blades, and a Schurter IEC, now with silver-plated neutral (-) prong, contribute greatly to this cord’s sonic virtues

A practical, no-nonsense design, these cords are great value and a significant upgrade over stock power cords, and compare well with many expensive ‘designer’ cords.

Sonic attributes: clean, smooth and detailed without being bright or harsh; well extended, controlled and dynamic bass; open and airy presentation; balanced and musical.

Suggestion: start by replacing the power cords on digital gear, because the potential for improvement is greater.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION:

Cable: Belden 19364 14/3 SJT cord Drain wire; Jute filler; Beldfoil shielded; 100% Coverage. UL and CSA approved.; 18 amperes/conductor; Voltage rating: 300 volts RMS

IEC: Schurter 4718000 IEC Hot connection 120°C, captive internal contacts, cable clamp screw mounts inside the plug to secure cable, 14 gauge support, brass contacts, full 7 mm of contact on each side of pins when engaged, ideal for hi-definition audio signal Neutral (-) prong now electro silver-plated and treated with a silver lube

Plug: Pass&Seymour 5266 X extra high grade power plug now with electro silver-plated lead (+) and polished brass neutral (-) blades (in replacement of standard 5266 X plug) Contacts treated with Caig Pro Gold (silver-plated blade treated with a silver lube)

Some comments about the Asylum XDT (limited edition discontinued and replaced by the new Asylum 2) power cord from buyers:

Hi. How are you? Sorry to have NOT responded, I didn't start using the cords until after Xmas. Have been using them on Preamp, DAC, and transport, and REL subs. Have compared them to Stealth, Virtual Dynamics and Dedicated Audio PC's. They performed well against these. ALL the cords performed well on transport, DAC, Preamp, SUBs, and on Integrated I have. Thanks and regards Mike.

Some comments about the Asylum HDT (limited edition discontinued of the Asylum cord with P&S 5965-bk plug in replacement of the original 5266-X plug) power cord from buyers:

Denis, You're absolutely right -- these cords do have a warm and full midrange!! Funny looking plugs (5965-bk), but boy, do they sound nice!! Can I buy some more cords from you as soon as I can decide what other lengths I could use?? Best, Prentice

Some comments about the Asylum power cord (original version) from buyers:

Listened to music last night with the cable in my system (audio note CD player), and enjoyed what I heard. I think the good thing about the design you use—and the way you put the cord together—is that the effect is a positive one. Sometimes, regardless of cost, a cable or interconnect had affect the overall sound in a negative way (the Virtual Dynamic power cords I tried were incredibly shrill—the only lesson I learned from trying them was that a power cord can truly affect the sound of an audio system); your cables always sound good, regardless of where they are placed. Just to let you know that I am very happy with the cords and I will give you good feedback on Audiogon. Thanks Mike

I received the power cords today and from the "get go", it obvious that there's a difference in the soundstage. My preamp(ARC LS-12) is finally breathing! My Martin Logans are singing to its fullest! Performing as it should be, I would say. Your power cords are worth every penny spent ... Hope to order from you again soon. Thanks! amandarae

I bought two 6' power cords from you yesterday. I have to say I like them very much. They are better than what I have been using before and at a great price. I'm happy with my purchase. Best regards. Boris

--------------

Hi Denis the powercords have definitely made an improvement ...Everything sounds a bit smoother and organic, more analog like. Thanks again. Marcello

--------------

I had a short (too short) listen last night, and to my surprise, the improvement was immediately detectable. A blacker background and better dynamics are the two most prominent improvements that come to mind. More time in the listening chair will most pleasantly be required. I listened again last night...your cords offer a most definite improvement, THANKS Andy

Hi Denis, yes, they sound great. It is amazing what a good pair of cables can do for the sound. I have a very revealing system and as soon as I replaced the cables for your cables I could hear the difference, specially in the bass (it became tighter, more focused). Thanks much. Gilberto

--------------

Hi denis, thanks – I got the cables end of last week, they were as advertised; my system is more dynamic, & they haven't even broken-in yet! ;~) you'll notice i have left you positive feedback... regards, doug s.

--------------

...haven't had a great deal of time to listen to music. What I've heard so far, however, sounds great...I did do a comparison, however, with the power cord on my phono pre-amp, and definitely preferred the sound of the one you made. The sound in comparison to my previous cord is less veiled, more detailed, 'quieter'. There is more of everything with yours. Put another way, I could say that the basic sound hasn't changed--there's just more of a good thing. Nick

--------------

My initial reaction to the sound was it was slightly more dynamic, especially evident on piano. I try to avoid switching back and forth between components, preferring to listen for a week or so and see if generally I feel CDs sound better than before. I have an organ CD with a real tune played on very low notes (and I mean very low!) - I have never heard it more clear. On other CDs I can agree with you that there is a very slight improvement in detail, but probably the increased control over the base is most evident. I'll keep listening! Regards David
