Looking for a great preamp at a terrific price? How about the terrific used all tube LA-150MKI line stage preamp from Joule-Electra. Though about 15 years old, we have given this used preamp a through check-up (testing tubes, adjusting bias settings, check power supply operation) and it is in excellent health and comes with a half dozen or so spare tubes!. This particular unit is very good condition for its age. Originally, it started off life as a LA-100MKIII and was upgraded to a LA-150MK1 (how do I know this??? the key sign is the original LA-100MKIII line stage board is in the unit with the additional tube socket added to give this preamp two 6C45 and one 6H30, were original production LA-150MK1 had two of each tube type...not that it matters a great deal as the preamp works and sounds like a 150MK1). These preamps have wonderful tone and portray a big palpable sound stage. As they are also low gain designs, the work well with today's sources which tend to have rather high output levels. Mate with a solid state power amp to add some wonderful sound to your HiFi system. These where around $4,500 when new, this used preamp is a terrific value for only $1,450!
