For Sale: Leighton Audio (Audio Note) push pull 2A3 stereo tube amp.Custom built push pull 2A3 amp with premium parts - designed by Jeff Brown, of Leighton Audio, when he was working for Angela Instruments in Baltimore. Jeff was a protege of Joseph Esmilla and Methelkisian when they were the Audionote importers in the 90s. This amp utilizes the 50 watt Audionote output transformers and Audionote copper/paper/oil coupling capacitors and oil caps in the power supply (big cans on top). Input tubes are one 6SN7 and one 6SL7 and the rectifier tube is a Mullard GZ34. Class A output power is 8 watts per channel into 8 ohms. Output tubes are 4 Sovtek 2A3s (with unknown hours). Self bias. Two hum pots on top panel. Audionote output trannies and coupling caps with oil caps in power supply. Point-to-point wiring. Take a look at the photos, its a DiY build and the chassis has begun to sag. The amp is a good candidate for a rebuild. The parts alone are worth the asking price.
The amp is about 15 years old. It sounds lovely. Jeff used this amp in his shop on Mississippi non-stop for a few years. The amp has just been gone thru and touched up by Ian at Specimen Products, a Chicago tube amp designer and builder. Its hard to rate the condition on a unit like this. It does not look great, but does sound great. Just back from its tune up. I gave it a 6. The amp will be well packaged for its journey to you. $45 for UPS or FedEx ground in the continental U.S..
