This is a rare opportunity and a one of a kind tube (2 ea 12SL7) BAM designed by David Berning with a resonant type tube switch mode power supply. The case is all copper. This piece was originally built to be shown with Merlin Speakers and Berning electronics at the 2005 Montreal Audio Show. All passive components in the unit are premium including vishay resistors and 6 ea TFTF VCAPS. I was the lucky purchaser after the unit was loaned out to several Merlin owner's all of whom expressed interest. It was never the intent to market and sell this unit as an alternate product to Merlin's own BAM which is unfortunate since this unit is so superior to the original Battery/AC and Super BAM. The effect is not just in the bass but is well noted in the added fullness and ease throughout the frequency spectrum. To my knowledge there were only 3 of these units, including one David Berning made for himself after he procured a pair of Merlins from Bobby Palkovic. None of those units have these premium parts per Allan Bhagan who sold me the unit. I have not compared directly to Bobby's latest Reference BAM with the large Dueland cast caps so can't comment. I have since sold my Merlin VSM and was actually using this BAM with a pair of Ref 3a Decapo and a Berning amp with similar effect as when used with the Merlin speakers. I have since gone with a subwoofer with the DeCapos and don't require this very special BAM. The design parameters are the same as the Merlin BAM, 5.2 db boost at 35 hz. To those that may be hesitant to purchase without the ability to audition I will offer a full 30 day guarantee that you will be thrilled.
