This is a one of a kind tube BAM using 2 12SL7 tubes for use with Merlin VSM speakers. Tubes in this unit will probably last at LEAST 10 years. In any case I have a couple pair which I will include in the purchase. You will note in the photo that the 2 top RCAs are the input and the 2 bottom the output. The case is all copper.This BAM is something only David Berning would come up with to those familiar with his innovative designs. It uses a resonant type tube switch mode power supply. This particular BAM is one of only 3 made by David including one he had for use with his pair of Merlin VSMs. It was originally made for use in an all Merlin/Berning system to be shown at the 2005 Montreal audio show. This particular unit is a one and only, all premium parts including wire, resistors and 6 ea teflon Vcaps. This unit was lent to several Merlin/Berning owners by Alan Bhagan to directly compare to Bobby Palkovich's AC/Battery and Super BAM. All agreed that this unit was so much superior to Bobby's BAM that we ALL wanted one. I personally did a direct comparison to both and SO wanted it. It was never the intent to market as an alternate product to the Merlin BAM units. I ended up being the fortunate purchaser, willing to pay the 1.7K it cost me to get it. Parts alone total about 900.00 per Alan Bhagan who I purchased it from so my asking price is quite fair. I have used it until quite recently with a pair of Reference 3a Decapo speakers to equally good effect, a greater ease in the overall presentation throughout the frequency spectrum with a boost of 5.2 db at 35 hz, the same design parameters of Merlin's BAM. I have since gone with a subwoofer for use with the Decapos so I no longer require it. I can't comment on how this tube BAM compares to Bobby's latest Reference BAM with the Dueland CAST copper cap. I am so confident about the performance of this BAM that I am willing to totally guarantee for 30 days of receiving that the purchaser will be completely satisfied or return it to me in the condition it was sent and I will give a full refund of the purchase price less shipping and fees.
