The full separation of data and power eliminates the interference of noise from a computer's 5 volt line. This is a significant advancement in computer audio and one you will be able to hear readily. While most dacs do require a 5 volt signal, a LOT of high quality dacs only need it for 3 seconds to create a "handshake" between the computer and the dac. SO? So, as with my two dacs, you plug in the power and data lines into your computer and once the dac is recognized by the computer (either instantly or upon a re-boot), you CAN REMOVE the power line entirely. Voila, no more 5 volt noise pollution. You can really HEAR the difference.
