I am a long-time Quad ESL 63 owner, am now on my second pair of 63's.I have tried nearly a dozen different amplifiers on the Quads, tubes, solid state, nothing has come close to the 909. The synergy with electrostats, especially the ESL 63 is obvious from the first note of the first record. I have a pair of well-regarded tube monoblocks I still listen to once in a while, but they don't stay in the system long. The 909 is just, well...right. Plenty of power, plenty of drive to make the ESL 63 sound its best. I also have a pair of Kingsound Queen hybrid electrostats. The 909 is perfect for them, too. I had my 909 modified slightly and bought the one that is for sale to use while the other was being worked on. Paul Seydor and Anthony Cordesman of the Absolute Sound (RIP HP) did a three part series on the 909 and its matching preamp, the 99, with ESL 63's and others. The series is illuminating. http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/quad-99-series-preamplifier-and-909-stereo-power-amplifier-tas-203/ http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/back-to-musical-realism-the-quad-system-part-1/ http://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/back-to-musical-realism-the-quad-system-part-2/ This amp is completely stock, comes with the original box, but no manual.
