LOOK THESE UP ON EBAY FOR PRICES PEOPLE PAY. MINE ARE LOOKING MORE THAN EVER LIKE A TERRIFIC BARGAIN, IF I SAY SO MYSELF. With expert advice from Keith Snook (UK) and members of the Bottlehead Forum, including chief designer Paul Joppa, I have thoroughly restored these highly prized antiques, replacing ALL the resistors and ALL the capacitors with high end ones, including Mundorf M-Lytics. The iron (choke and transformers) is in good shape, as one would expect. My Quad II's are 220VAC, and come (no extra cost) with a pair of 500W Step Up/Down transformers, which provide on/off switches and some power conditioning (as in API Power Wedges and other dedicated power conditioners). I also added an inrush surge protector, to insure long component life. The vintage sound is terrific:
too bad Quad went to solid state amps like the Quad 303 and Quad 404, whose sound is markedly inferior. These monoblocks use five tubes each, and I'll supply a total of 27, with details on request. Many of these are vintage, like four Mullard EF86's, and many are new, never used. The "Original Price" listed may even be high, but I've seen unrestored pairs on eBay listed at as high as $3,999. And I'll bet that no listed pair will be as nicely restored as mine. These Quad II's are set up for output tubes of the 6l6 family, but can very easily be converted back for QT66 use: a single resistance gets changed. I'll do it for the buyer, but advise against it, for what that's worth. The mostly yellow braided power cords from the transformers to the Quad II's may look Mickey Mouse, but are in fact quite good: I sold four of them to the owner of The Sound Room in Vancouver, B.C. Cosmetics are only fair, owing to some scratches on the big transformers. Shipping weight is only a guess,, but I have to list a figure. Used with my 104 db sensitive Oris 150 horns, these are the quietest amps in my fairly large collection (several Bottleheads, a Transcendent Sound SE OTL, others). At normal listening level, I could hear only the tiniest bit of white noise. As usual, Paypal adds 3%, or from Canada 3.5%. Further inquiries are welcome.
