These have been upgraded to the limit by the ASL Importer and authorized distributor/repair facility - Divergent Technologies Inc. The regular Hurricanes are fantastic sounding amps, but these are in the elite league of tube amps. Tash Goka, a great guy, of Divergent had these amps upgraded with the following impressive list of refinements. - $1250 of general circuit upgrades
- $1200 for the installation of 16 Mundorf Silver and Gold coupling caps
- $900 for Bybee Music Rails in the power supply - wow!
- other improvements I will provide a copy of the invoice for your records. A total of $3550 in upgrades all done by the importer/dealer/service center that knows these amps Inside and out. All this work was done in June of 2011. These amps have no problem holding a bias and can actually be run with any amount of tubes up to the full eight depending on your power needs. One bias selector is off by one tube so position one biases tube two etc... No big deal and each tube still biases with ease and accurately. These amps sound absolutely magnificent and all the Audiophile words apply in terms of power, ease, top and bottom end extension etc.... However, these go well beyond these attributes and do some quite magical things. The music just appears in front of me causing my speakers to disappear. I have not experienced this sort of thing at this level before hearing these amps. Bottom line is music flows in the room and the notion of a stereo system just fades away. They are in good condition, but do show those swirl marks in the finish etc.... I would rate these a 7 overall with no major dings or scratches. The finish is just not perfect and 7 seems right overall. I have the original packing. The amp will come with a near new set of 16 EH KT88 tubes. In addition, I will include some extra KT88’s from Valve Art as extras. The original retail plus the upgrades bring the total cost up to over $9,000. However, they sound better then other high power tube amps selling for double that. I will ship by Fedex ground I will fully insure. Buyer pays actual shipping and PayPal fee. My price is very low and well under the cost for the recent upgrades alone! Four of the KT-88 have a broken center pin. This happened when tubes were removed off center. They still operate as new but upon purchase will order four new EH tubes for replacement.
