A 3 stage 845 Tube SET Amplifier with 6SN7 input and 46 driver:This is a tough one for me. I really don’t want to sell this amp, but at this time, and for the foreseeable future, it is not a perfect fit for my system. However, this could be a fantastic opportunity for the right person. The MonaClone (as I christened her several years ago--UPDATED: look it up, you'll get the drift!) is a very special amp designed by a well-known tube amp designer/builder. While the designer provided many of the custom parts as well as handholding during the build, I assembled and did basic testing of the amp myself. The amp runs the tubes conservatively and because so, it only puts out 10 Watts per Channel at 8 ohms, but with a massive power transformer and stiff power supply, it subjectively more powerful and will drive the MTM section of my VSA VR-35s to reasonable levels. (UPDATE: I have been biamping on the VSA's and until the onset of clipping at fairly loud levels, the sound is terrific.) I never expected to part with this wonderful amp, as I spent hours and hours building it. It sounds spectacular, but due to a change in speakers, it is currently underutilized and should be in a system where it shines. NOTE: This is not an amp for tube amp novices. Because I am not a professional builder, I desire to sell this amp to someone with tube amp experience and preferably someone with high-voltage tube DIY knowledge. While fairly quiet at idle, it does buzz a bit, especially with higher efficiency speakers. (Of course, like many SET amps, this cannot be heard when music playing.) I believe additional improvements in noise floor can be made by someone with the knowledge and testing equipment to test each stage. Prospective buyers could consider this listing as an offer of a fantastic set of amp parts with chassis and tubes, which just happens to be assembled and sounds incredible! (UPDATE: Other than the minor tube buzz, there is nothing operationally wrong with this amplifier that I am aware of. It functions perfectly and sounds amazing.)
Asking $1,850.00 (Add 3% for Pay Pal) (Updated) While I would rather sell the amp, I would be interested in trading for the right item--please send me your ideas. The price is a bargain for an amp of this pedigree and sound quality. The asking price is less than the cost of the parts alone. I will include one (used) tube set with the amp. A power cord is not included. (UPDATE) While I would rather not ship this amplifier, I would consider it if the buyer pays for professional packing and shipment. I will deliver within 1-2 hours of Indianapolis, or alternatively I could bring the amplifier to Chicago to deliver during AXPONA.
