I just had Jim McShane's recommended tech, Don Sachs, completely rebuild two HK Citation IIs for me. I now realize that I only need one of them, so the 2nd one is for sale. Don does amazing work and the amplifier should be good for another 50 years of service. The transformers have been repainted, which is normally a problem for old Citation IIs. The chassis and faceplate do show the wear one would expect from a 50 year old amplifier but the insides of the amplifier are meticulous.
The rebuild includes all of the latest power supply, bias supply, and other part upgrades that Jim McShane offers. Every part has been upgraded including tube sockets. It also has extra features added which greatly enhance its functionality. One can now switch from pentode connected outputs to triode connected outputs at the flick of a switch. There are also extra jacks included for setting output tube bias. The power supply now ramps up slowly due to the inclusion of current inrush limiters. Included are a new set of 12BY7a tubes and Gold Lion repro KT-88 tubes. The amp has been completely tested, biased, and AC balanced. Don Sachs supports and guarantees the rebuild for 2 years and warrants the tubes for 90 days.Don normally charges $3299 for an amplifier rebuilt to these specifications but I'll let it go for $3099. This is essentially the cost of buying a Citation 2 in need of a rebuild + the cost of parts + Don's time for the rebuild. At this point price is firm. Shipping and paypal fees are extra.
