We'll rebuild and modify your McIntosh mono tubed amp (MC30, MC40, MC60). We did this to a pair of MC30s and except for bass (we've heard better bass) they are the best-sounding amps we've heard in a system that we were familiar with. Price is for one amp. Return shipping is additional. If we can reuse your shipping materials, shipping will be at actual cost. We'll: (1) Install all new electrolytic capacitors, larger than the originals, and bypass them with paper-in-oil capacitors. (2) Replace all carbon composition resistors with 1% metal film (for stability and low noise). (3) Replace all signal capacitors with Russian K40Y-9s. This is the single most important upgrade. (4) Replace the 12AU7 with a 12BH7 or 6C7/6FQ7 (your choice). This tube is included with the modification price. (5) We'll listen test for a couple of days to make sure the amp is stable and sounds like it should. (6) We'll test your tubes. If they're good, they're good. If any need to be replaced, we'll contact you. You can either buy tubes through us or have your own shipped to us, your choice. Any other services are additional and probably won't be needed (transformers, for example). Please contact us for advice on shipping before sending the amp. Is the mod worth the price? From a highly-biased perspective, it's an audio bargain. Except for bass, we literally don't know where to get an amp that sounds this good. Detail and dynamics, both micro and macro, are its hallmarks. McIntosh knew how to engineer a first-rate tubed power amp. We know how to make them better.
