This Playstation model uses the popular AKM4309 DAC. The modifications to the output stage remove op amps and muting transistors that degrade the audio quality. Coupling capacitors and resistors are in the analog output stage are replaced with high quality Elna Silmic II capacitors, audio grade Polypropylene film and foil capacitors, and PRP precision metal film resistors to add clarity, soundstage depth and extended frequency response in the bass and treble. All of these components have non-inductive tinned Copper leads for nicely balanced tonality. The warm midrange highlighted in the aforementioned reviews is completely retained. I also upgrade the power supply capacitors to improve dynamic response and bass extension. If you have a large CD collection, this is a highly musical playback system.
