Yamaha CD-S2000 Natural Sound Super Audio CD Player (BLACK)Relisted as buyer evaporated. Yamaha CD-S2000 original owner purchased 08-16-13 as new, going computer audio $850.00 Shipped via FedEx Ground
Realizing predictions are a dime a dozen and, more importantly, knowing that countless audiophiles own growing CD and SACD libraries, Yamaha has developed a performance-first SACD/CD player that reproduces music exactly as it was recorded, with absolutely nothing added or lost. Meet the CD-S2000. Outfitted with full-stage balanced signal transmission, a silent loading mechanism, independent power supplies with separate digital and analog sections, and a Pure Direct circuit, this sonic marvel focus on one goal - pure, dynamic, transparent sound - and accomplishes its mission with aplomb. Only in such a magnificent player would the gorgeous buttons and old-school wood side panels seem secondary.
Full-Stage Balanced Signal Transmission Begins with the DAC; Pair It With the A-S2000
The CD-S2000 features a differential motion D/A converter that succeeds in doubling the conversion precision by using Yamaha's high-precision DAC converters on the plus side and the minus side. The outputs of the plus and minus sides are then input into isolated low pass filters, and transmitted in a fully balanced state from there to the output jack. Combining this player with the Yamaha A-S2000 amplifier lets you enjoy high purity CD reproduction of a magnitude unmatched in this class thanks to an absence of transmission noise and related sound degradation. When connected to the A-S2000, the D/A converter uses a differential motion mode to achieve balanced transmission of all stages after it.
No Expense Spared in the Independent Power Supplies
Going the extra mile, Yamaha designed independent power supplies that use separate transformers to isolate the audio circuitry from the digital circuitry in pursuit of eliminating any effect of noise from both circuits. The audio section employs a toroidal transformer that holds down magnetic flux leakage to achieve a stable power supply. Specialized windings on the left and right channels isolate the rated current circuits to the left and right beyond them, achieving superior separation characteristics. Again, the sole purpose of the CD-S2000 is CD and SACD sound like you've never experienced, and Yamaha stops at nothing in delivering such a promise.
CD Drive Mechanism Among Industry's Finest
The mechanism that picks up the signal in the CD-S2000 is actually analog, even during the digital reproduction of a CD. As a result, the quality of the precision of the drive mechanism significantly impacts the precision of the subsequent digital signal - as well as the final sound. The CD-S2000 mechanism includes a new Silent Loader that solidly supports the CD drive and loading mechanism, as well as a highly reliable brushless spindle motor. An aluminum disc tray affords a luxurious touch that mirrors the superb sound quality.
Pure Direct, Incredible Build Quality, Ultra-Cool Looks
Furthering its distinctiveness, the CD-S2000 is the first Yamaha CD player to incorporate the Pure Direct circuit, long found on the legendary manufacturer's A/V amplifiers. Since this player has separate analogue and digital sections - the same as an A/V amp - Yamaha decided using A/V amp expertise was another excellent opportunity to achieve superb sound quality. When Pure Direct is on, the display is turned off and digital output is stopped, realizing the highest-possible analogue sound quality. The CD-S2000's build quality is similarly top-flight. It boasts a left-right symmetrical design and rigid, stable construction that owes to a reinforcing bar in its center. Specially designed feet stabilize grounding and damp external vibrations. The height-adjustable feet even provide a choice between two bases. Leave the round, flat neodymium magnets in place or remove them to rest the amplifier on four single points.

Weight 33 lbs. If we were to dwell on the tangibles of a CD player's quality of build and finish, as well as the not-quite-so-tangibles of pride of ownership and desirability, then the Yamaha CD-S2000 would beat the opposition hands down.
Thanks to its beautifully milled aluminium fascia, its wooden side panels and its ineffably tactile control buttons, the Yamaha is a joy to behold and to use – it's even got one of the smartest remote controls we've seen.
It's probably not too healthy to get hung up on the way a CD player retracts its disc tray, but the CD-S2000 loads a disc with the same sort of unarguable solidity as the closing of a Rolls-Royce door. It feels worth about, oh, 10 times the price of the Cyrus CD8se.
That it doesn't sound 10 times as good as the Cyrus shouldn't really surprise anyone. With a copy of Pepe Deluxe's Spare Time Machine unfalteringly loaded, the Yamaha is, initially, underwhelming – it seems rather aloof, cool and collected at all times but unwilling to throw caution to the wind if the material demands it.
Stick with it for beautiful tonality
Listen longer, though, and the 'S2000 reveals itself to be a subtle and dextrous performer. Tonality is beautifully even throughout the frequency range, testing dynamics are handled with conviction and it doesn't scrimp on the details.
Given a chance, the Yamaha is an involving and communicative player that eschews histrionics in favour of a sort of microwave-oven cooking-without-heat approach that should find many admirers.
There's even more of this unflappability on display when playing an SACD – our copy of Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon (say what you like about SACD, the choice of titles isn't going to confuse anyone) sounds big and burly, but with all the dexterity and detail the intricate material demands.
