"Denon engineers were given the green light to pull out all the stops when developing the flagship DVD-9000. Is it the world's finest DVD player? It's definitely a contender!

By combining the most powerful video processing circuitry we know of, and ultra high-quality parts throughout the signal chain, the DVD-9000 offers a DVD viewing experience that gives new meaning to the term "filmlike." The player's six 108MHz/14-bit video D/A converters are able to tap the maximum potential of Silicon Image's Sil 504 de-interlacer, featuring PureProgressive™ circuitry — considered by many experts to be the most advanced de-interlacer available. Progressive-scan picture quality is richly textured and dimensional — truly breathtaking when viewed on an HDTV or HDTV-ready TV.

The DVD-9000 takes the same over-the-top approach to digital audio processing, resulting in audiophile-quality stereo and multichannel sound. We've been impressed by a few other players that use multiple audio D/A converters, but the '9000 uses eight of Burr-Brown's finest 192kHz/24-bit DACs — 2 stereo DACs each for the front left and right channels (in a differential configuration), and one DAC for each remaining channel for 5.1-channel sound. A DVD-Audio decoder lets you experience a new dimension in wraparound music enjoyment. Denon has further developed its proprietary AL 24 Processing to support the 192-kHz sampling frequency of DVD-Audio. This new technology, AL 24 Processing Plus, enables the DVD-9000 to resolve the microscopic details and delicate nuances that bring you closer to the music. Full digital bass management ensures optimum multichannel playback for DVD-Audio.

If you look at the DVD-9000's back panel (see More Photos), you'll notice a jack labeled "Denon Link." This is the exclusive Denon Link output. When connected to a compatible component (such as Denon's incredible AVR-5803 A/V receiver), you'll be able to send 6-channel, 96kHz/24-bit or stereo 192kHz/24-bit DVD-Audio signals to this receiver digitally for musical reproduction of unprecedented purity and precision.

Superior audio and video processing power is critical, but Denon's engineers also took fanatical pains to maximize the chassis' mechanical integrity and resistance to both internal and external vibrations. For starters, the DVD-9000 weighs over 40 pounds! The top cover uses three types of 1.2-mm thick metal sheets (one is copper-plated) — these three pieces alone weigh more than many budget DVD players! The drive mechanism is mounted on a cast-aluminum base. The disc tray is actually painted with a special vibration-resistant protein material. The chassis' bottom plate is a 4-layer hybrid design, while the large insulator feet soak up external vibrations.

Denon's THX® Ultra-certified DVD-9000 delivers a spectacular DVD picture that begs to be displayed on a large, high-performance HDTV-capable front- or rear-projection system. And even if you don't own any DVD-Audio discs yet, you'll find that listening to your CDs on this Denon is like having a whole new music collection!
