Restoration Services. We specialize in restoring Kenwood, Marantz, NAD and Yamaha integrated amps. Older amps tend to lose their punch due to inexpensive electrolytic caps drying out. This usually happens after as little as 20 years. Any unit over 20 years old will definitely sound different as caps dry out and will benefit from a recap. Newer Nichicon and Elna audio caps add punch and life to older amps, highs become more pronounced and bass is deeper with or with out bass boost. These caps weren't available when these units were manufactured and we are finding many units populated with very cheaply made Chinese caps.

In a typical unit, we replace all electrolytic capacitors in the signal path and upgrade to Elna "Silmic II" audio-grade capacitors. Power supply and most other small electrolytics are replaced with Nichicon "Fine Gold" and "KG" type" capacitors. Original filter caps are usually upgraded (uf increased) and replaced with new Nichicon "Gold Tune" or Elna Audio. ALL original bulbs replaced. All rotary and push-button switches cleaned with DeOxit G5 Gold. All potentiometers flushed twice with DeOxit FaderLube. Chassis metal cleaned and protectant applied. PS and audio signal path circuit boards carefully cleaned, inspected and any suspect solder connections reflowed. High-quality Kester silver-bearing solder used in all part replacements and re-solder work. DC offset zeroed and idle current set to factory specs (after one-hour warm-up/stabilization period). All RCA-style inputs, dubbing jacks and headphone jack internally and externally cleaned and de-oxidized.

Lately, we have been doing a lot of speaker crossover rebuilding. The same thing happens to crossover caps and these should definately be replaced with polypropylene Clarity caps. In the past, capacitors were just capacitors and sound quality was determined by the dialectric material while Clarity polypropylene audio caps were considered by many as "the best"-seeing as this type of capacitor had the lowest losses. The mechanical resonance, a key feature of capacitors, greatly improves the sound in older crossovers. We can replace all crossover caps with Clarity polypropylene caps to further increase sound quality.

We also do replacement of speakers connectors where the original connectors are the lower grade standard connectors and replace with top quality connectors. These are used on most "high End" integrated amps costing 1000s of dollars.

Contact us for pricing if you are interested and we will provide pricing for any restoration project you request. Prices are very reasonable and turnaround is fast.
