If you own either electrostatics or a highly reactive cone speaker then the SPEC RSP series is a very effective way to significantly improve your sound. The SPEC RSP basically buffers the amp from the EMF backforce created by the variation in speaker impedance. I use Quad 57 ESL and the sound improvement from adding the RSP 901EX is not subtle. The sound stage expands in both directions and the sound becomes more relaxed and harmonically satisfying. It is a wonderful upgrade for highly reactive speakers. There is very little improvement for purely resistive speakers such as Magnepans, Apogees, etc.
