I have been on a quest for great phonostage. The Thoress is in my top three or four out of the twenty three phonostages I have had in my system over the last few years. If value is considered, it wins, IMHO. I bit the bullet and bought my favorite phono(at almost 47k list price) so I am going to be selling all of my other phonostages.
This unit looks new and sounds even better. I upgraded the loading resistors to Vishay Foil. Still have the originals that will be included. The Vishays gave a nice improvement in clarity, especially in the top. They also added a little speed.
I have tried several different NOS tubes but wound up liking the original NOS tubes best. I also experimented with different feet. Bottom line, the standard feet are pretty good it will respond well to after market feet.
The Thoress is very quiet, dynamic and it sounds like real music. The adjustable RIAA feature added some flexibility that I liked. I liked turning up the high side one notch.
I would give a condition rating of 9.
