can be used for

balanced stereo volume control

SE biamp volume control

SE triamp volume comtrol

An unusual item so bear with me. I was tri-ampimg with 3 Naim amps and wanted a passive volume control so Placette custom built this for me. It is basically three of their stereo passive preamps in one chassis. The in/out connectors are configured to match how Naim configures their equipment but adapters or cables can be easily configured to match whatever you have. I have 40+ years of electronics experience so I can make it work for you. The current Naim input standard is left and right on a single XLR as shown in the diagram. This can also be used in balanced configuration for a stereo balanced passive. The output is a 4 pin DIN, also a Naim standard, but can be used as is with adapters or a cable fabricated to work with it. Rest assured whatever you need can be fabricated. What I was using L-R for can easily be adapted to plus/minus for a balanced configuration. For balanced operation the inputs can be used as is. It is configured for Naim amps so where the XLR input is labeled L and R a typical balanced system they will be + and -, no change needed. The outputs would need to be change to XLR to work with a conventional balanced cable. I see 3 options. One is to send it to Placette. They would need to punch out a new back panel as the XLR output sockets are bigger than the DIN sockets. I assume they would do this but I have no idea what the cost would be. Another is to take a pair of balanced cables and re-terminate with DIN connectors. Of course, if you have expensive cables that would destroy their resale value unless you had them re-terminated back to XLR when you to sell them. If you wish I can send along a pair of cables terminated this way.. or you could use a pair of Naim cables they use with their power amps that are DIN to XLR , they retail for $120 each, but I would start with free cables or adapters from me. The third would be to make DIN to XLR adapters. I have 40+ years of electronics experience including many years making DIY amps, cables, and such so can easily fabricate this for you.

The cost for a stereo unit is $1000 so they built this for me for 3X that at $3000. It has several switches on the front panel to allow different grounding schemes to eliminate any noise or hum. It also has the low gain option you engage by hitting the zero on the remote that reduces the output allowing a larger number of steps at lower volumes. I know a very unusual piece so not really sure how to price it, but for someone who needs a passive to biamp, triamp, or wants balanced this will fill the bill.
