Audio Research SP8 MKI REV 5 Tube PreampThis legendary preamp (S/N 73021003) is a REV 5 edition from Audio Research. It came from the factory with Wonder Caps and premium caps in the phono section. I checked with the factory and they classified this as a MKI w/ REV 5 additions. They occasionally issued versions such as this during model year change over. The original owner happened to get this one and didn’t even realize it until years later. This is a REV 5 unit built on the REV 1 pcb. It includes the improved REV 5 power supply and REV 5 circuit changes, which was all done by Audio Research w signed QC document. The power supply Electrolytic caps were replaced and are 1 yr old. The item has been in use in my system and it works fine. Unit retubed and has about 500 hrs on them. The only things I have done are to install gold rca jacks for the phono input and line out, and installed Cardas wire. If preferred, the original wire (which I kept) will be reinstalled. I am the second owner. I purchased this from the original owner (a member here) and have the original shipping boxes, manual and signed QC document. I listed the condition as 8 only due to the age, but it is really a solid 9. The original owner did an excellent job in keeping it clean and show room new. He was not a smoker and neither am I. You will not be disappointed in the appearance or sound quality. This is a beautiful example of vintage Audio Research tube technology and still competes well in its price range and is still well respected. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
