The Conrad Johnson Premier 17LS, released circa 2001, was a game changer; not only for the company itself but for the industry in terms of price / performance value. This preamp is better than the version 2 that came out a few years later. With very little exception, there are no contemporary CJ products I would buy today due to a major shift in sound after the 17LS and Art were made, making them as lauded as they are today for the juxtaposition of detail, dynamics and harmonic richness. This is not a preamp for head bangers.The sonic signature contains an extensive amount of detail. solid bass, wide soundstage and a touch of warmth; which, subjectively, is my kind of sound. No, It will not match the dynamics of Audio Research. Different sound, yet with that said, this preamp works well with many different amps; especially tube. The unit excels at just about any kind of music especially female vocals, small jazz combo's, acoustic guitar and piano. It is built beautifully. My unit has less than 50 hours on it as per my use as I am the second owner. Remote, factory tubes and original box included. There are no issues. It is in like new condition and just tested. I want you happy. The preamp retailed originally for $4495. My price is $2000 and I am firm on that.
