For sale is a custom preamp made by Paul Birkland of Bottlehead. The circuit is close to the Soul Sister design and the current Mainline headphone amp from Bottlehead. This preamp has a fully shunt regulated power supply using a single 6BL7GTA tube. The preamp tubes that can be used include a single 6SN7 or two 6J5 variants giving it a wide sound profile. There is an ELMA 3 way selector switch. The volume control is a two-part stepped attenuator and has the same steps as the current attenuator sold by Bottlehead. All input and output RCA’s are full copper. All knobs are vintage bakelite. The transformer bell housing has a gun metal wrinkle finish and the top place has a black wrinkle finish. The DC blocking capacitors are Auricaps with V-Cap bypasses. The output transformers are a rare pair of Magnequest B7 15k’s in full Cobalt laminations. There are two sets of output RCA’s with one pair that has slightly higher output than the other. The base is a custom smoked maple with a gun oil finish. This is a wonderfully detailed preamp and it would stay in my system if I hadn’t finished a custom 71A preamp/headphone amp. The base has minor wear to it. Please see photos for details. It is in good used working condition and will include two pair of 6J5 tubes and one 6BL7GTA tube, a Bottlehead power cord ($84) and a pair of Bottlehead interconnects ($65). When commissioned, this preamp cost $1500 to complete. I’m asking $750 plus shipping. No refunds or returns.
