The Sapphire Reference Speaker Cable employs a patent pending construction technique providing “distributed damping” which allows the amplifier to better control the speakers.The Sapphire Reference cables are a set (a total of 8 wires to each speaker) of 8 gauge wire in a unique weave pattern (see accompanying picture). Despite the unusually heavy gauge of the wire, the cables are quite flexible and easy to manipulate. The combination of the gauge and the weave pattern serve to reduce the resistance, inductance and capacitance of the speaker cable (also, see the article in the current TAS--Feb. 2015, p 36, in reference to electrical engineering and cable construction), all enhancing the transfer of the music signal from amp to speaker. In other words, the cable “gets out of the way” so the music signal is transferred to the speaker with as little interference as possible. . The cables can be terminated with spades, banana plugs or a combination of spades and bananas. Fit and finish is attractive and functional. In addition to the Sapphire Reference, DanaCable are available in different models at both lower and higher price points. My personal experience with the DanaCable Sapphire speaker cables has been a significant improvement in timbre accuracy and a marked sound stage refinement. This results, for example, in a Saxophone sounding more like a Saxophone, and it being placed more accurately in the sound stage, in front of the drum kit (sound stage relative depth) and to the left of the piano, etc. While DanaCable is the “New Kid on the Block”, the word is spreading rapidly!! These cables provide a definite improvement in the audio signal to the speaker and therefore a more realistic live quality to the music heard.
