Rated 6/10 due to age and woofers need reconing. The cabinets are in excellent shape. The grill covers are in very good shape and amazingly for a 25+ yr.-old speaker, are fully intact. I bought these speakers brand new in 1985 and used them as our primary speakers until 1996. After that, they were relegated to the stereo in the study and used only used occasionally. The woofers have been reconed and voice coils replaced once by an JBL-authorized service facility, and one of the woofers needed reconing about a decade aggo at which time it came back with brown and not white paper. Now, both speakers need to be reconed.
When I was in the market, it came down between the 120ti and the widely-heralded L100t. I listened extensively to each model using a number of different music sources. Without exception, the similarly-priced 120ti excelled convincingly. Of particular note, I recall how tight and fast the bass response the 120ti had on Flim & the BBs TriCycle and Dave Grusin’s Mountain Dance; to me, the L100t bass was flabby-sounding and paled by comparison to the 120ti. And they still deliver!
I am offering the speakers for sale because we decided to downsize some of our possessions, and these got the call, with much trepidation, I might add. The speakers have a frequency response of 35 – 27k Hz, +/- 6dB, with a power handling rating of 30 – 150W. They are rated at 89dB W/m efficiency. I used one of two 70-100 W amps to drive them and can report that they easily filled our 20X20 den with beautiful music. I goofed and boxed up the speakers without first taking pictures of them. Here are some pictures I got off of a BING search: http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=jbl+120ti&qpvt=jbl+120ti&FORM=IGRE#a. I have since unboxrd the speakers and am including some pictures.
Thanks for looking. I’ll be happy to answer your questions and am willing to entertain reasonable offers.
