Floor Standing bass reflex speaker system, utilizing Sunlight Engineering SE308 18" bass/mid driver with Sunlight Engineering version of the JBL 375 mid/high frequency horn driver concentrically mounted at the throat of the woofer, as in the Classic Tannoy Dual concentric drivers. The HF unit is a Foxtex T90A ES Horn Tweeter. The enclosures were built by John Kalinowski who spent some time experimenting to determing the best type of enclosure to use, deciding on the Bass Reflex French Walnut enclosure you see pictured, together with the crossover design,which follows the KISS philosophy, each crossover whch now uses a massive Duelund Coherent 12 uf cast capacitor, and a high quality copper coil between woofer and horn mid range, and a single capacitor for the Fostex T90A ES horn Super tweeter. Overall FR is better than +0- 2 db from below 40 cps to over 20k , in a 23' x 13' x 9 foot room. 108 db efficiency, easily driven by a 3 watt per channel single ended tube amp. Superb sound, coherent, detailed , and articulate, with great dynamic range, even when driven by 3 single ended Triode watts, just as described in the Triode Guild Article by Doc Gizmo, in which he discussed the positive aspects of Sunlight 308 drivers. In fact these are the very same pair of Sunlight 308s owned by the good Dr, and which replaced his Tannoy Westminster speakers in his own system. Being Doc Gizmos, the drivers do have minor evidence of his ownership, with slight marks and tears in the woofer cone which do not affect the sound quality of the system. (A 55 lb driver can be hard to work with when making changes to enclosure and internal crossovers.) Since their purchase 8 years ago, the crossovers were modified by moving them outside of the enclosures, and replacing the 12 uf Clairity Cap with the larger, very well regarded Duelund Cast capacitor.Selling as I am downsizing They are large and heavy, and my ears are not as good as they used to be. Most assuredly, I am not selling to pick up something better as there is not much chance of getting anything better for anything close to what I am asking. I have owned these for over 8 years, and have never once considered looking for anything better. They are that good.
The retail price shown is for the 308 drivers and French Walnut Enclosures the crossovers, and the Fostex T90A ES Horn Tweeters. It does not include the cost of materials used in building the enclosures, or time John spent in their design.
