Up for sale is a pair of Unity Audio Signature 3’s.
Condition:
The drivers consist of one 1 inch silk tweeter and two 7” cast basket poly woofers, one in front, one in the rear. The overall cosmetic condition is above average for the age. Grill cover is perfect with no rips or tears. One of the speakers has a gash in the top corner, otherwise excellent. There is a slight discoloring in one of the back woofers which does not affect the sound.
Sonics:
I am shocked at the realism these speakers convey. I feel as if I could reach out and touch the lead singer in whatever I am listening to! With proper placement the speakers can disappear. The midrange is warm, but not unnaturally so. The highs are extended, but not too forward. The mid-bass is supple and well rounded. These speakers image well, and produce a nice wide soundstage. You have to be very careful however, they are picky about placement.
History/Technology:
The name "Unity" came from a reference to a unity gain circuit, a circuit that (ideally) puts out exactly what is fed into it. The design goal was to produce loudspeakers that were as sonically transparent as possible. Developed from the PARM system technology the phase coherence , detail, efficiency and dynamic bass punch is unheard of in a compact speaker system.With a sub these speakers can be taken to a new level. Adding the sub not only extends the bass down to 28 Hz., it frees the bass from carrying the low frequencies which greatly improves the mid-range.
