A pair of mirror-image,6.5" 2-way monitors by August "Matthew" Bertram. August started out modifying Dynaco amps and building speaker systems for pro audio. In the '70's, he designed the Grafyx SP speakers, the Advent-killers of the time. In the '80's, he did the best designs for Amrita Audio. In the early '00's, August helped EKSC come up with some killer speakers to be worthy of their Eagle amps.
His bare-bones, plain black woodgrain vinyl box monitors can outperform some of the best monitors in the world. His unique 6.5" has the motor of a 10" woofer, and his proprietary crossovers are impedance, voltage and time constant. Our test put them head to head with the $7500 Joseph Audio Pulsars, besting them in midrange dynamics and openness.with very similar balance and imaging. The Pulsars have to-die-for cabinetry, and sonically deserve every award they've gotten. So save up for these jewels. In the mean time, listen to your new Small Wonders for sound in the same league, at a price we all can afford.
