* This is the best sub-woofer I've ever owned, or even heard. It is REAL super low sub bass. not a woofer in a big box. I didn't know such low bass was even in recorded music. It made the bass from a set of speakers that supposedly had "Amazing" bass sound like they rolled off an octave higher...*
I can't imagine anyone needing more ultra low end bass then this. It has been rarely used since the wife is afraid of it; it may have killed her cat!Seriously! The cat basically just keeled over and passed away when I turned the subwoofer on while a heavy bass passage was playing. So, if you have a cat... Maybe it scared her to death? She was an old cat.... Anyway, I'm not using it, and it's pretty much new condition. When I did use it, I was astonished at the LOW LOW bass it was capable of. Really, lower than I can hear, but it was moving dishes around in the corner cabinet.
At the same time, it was able to blend nicely with high end book shelf sized speakers, as well as large panel speakers; electrostatic, ribbon, etc. At 80 lbs and sizable dimensions, local pickup or driving to meet up is best. I'm willing to drive 2 1/2 hours in any direction from Greater Cleveland for the cost of gas. That means if you are willing to drive a similar distance, anywhere from Chicago, to NY might be possible, and as far south as KY. Or, gee if you are local to me, come give it a listen and pick it up. I'll help you load! Not much to take pictures of. A 16 X 16 X 20 or there abouts black semi-gloss enclosure. Amp. controls and 2 ports in the rear. Google has many pictures that all look the same, and look like mine.I found these 2 pics. on the internet somewhere, and that is what they look like; maybe mine slightly better condition.. Audio review has a good number of glowing reviews on these, and they are accurate in this case, IMO.
I don't have the original sponge plug for blocking one of the ports to lower the bass cut-off, but a chunk of foam rubber does just as well.
I suppose HSU may have the original plug if a stickler about such things. For me, it wasn't an issue; I just wanted the bass. They are as described and work as described. This has been a lifelong hobby, not a vocation. I'm slowly downsizing as my audio needs have greatly diminished with the passing of years. When you need help in moving your turntable, it's time... If you buy it; you'll be impressed, astonished and dumbfounded that they were ever able to sell these at the original price point an still make a buck!
