For sale are two Vandersteen 2Wq subs. Price is for the pair. These come from a dedicated sound room in a smoke and pet free home. Absolutely perfect condition, including the boxes, which have only been shipped once, from Vandersteen to the dealer where they were purchased. Included is everything that comes standard with the subs from Vandersteen: two WX-2 crossovers (one unopened in original packaging), the owner’s manual, hookup wire, and banana plugs.

Also included, two pair of X-2 crossovers, 75k ohm and 200k ohm. These were $110 per pair.

I’ve owned other subs and these are the easiest to integrate seamlessly with your main speakers. They completely disappear and draw no attention to themselves. I think this is due to their unique connection method.

Each sub is 18” x 17” x 18.5” high and weighs 80 pounds. In the box they are 21” x 23” x 25” and weigh about 100 pounds.

Shipping cost is the responsibility of the buyer and will be determined after the sale. Local pickup is welcome. PayPal adds 3%, bank cashiers checks and postal money orders also accepted.

Excerpts from Vandersteen literature:

The 2Wq subwoofers use three active eight-inch drivers rather than a single large woofer. The three eight inch drivers equal the cone area of a fourteen-inch woofer, but with much higher motor-to-cone-area ratio. The high ratio improves pitch definition and insures stable frequency and phase responses throughout and beyond the drivers operating range. The drivers are connected to a built-in 300-watt amplifier with advanced feed-forward error correction.

A WX-2 variable crossover is included with each 2Wq to determine which optional X-2 crossover matches your system. Only one WX-2 crossover is needed in a system even if you have two 2Wq subwoofers. The WX-2 should be retained after you purchase X-2 fixed crossovers in case you change your main amplifier.

To set the WX-2 crossover, you need to know the input impedance of your main amplifier. Internal switches in the WX-2 are set first to one value below, then one value above the input impedance and the sound evaluated for the best blend with the main speakers. Once the best crossover setting is determined, the higher performance X-2 fixed crossover matching that setting should be used.

The 2Wq uses a unique, innovative connection method that reduces the current demands on the main amplifier, but leaves the main amplifier in the signal path to the subwoofer. The crossover of the 2Wq is divided into separate low-pass and high-pass sections. Like conventional subwoofers, the high-pass portion of the 2Wq’s crossover is inserted into the signal path just before the main power amplifier to roll-off the low frequency response of the main amplifier and speakers. The critical difference is that the 2Wq does not take its input from its crossover, but samples the output from the main amplifier that is driving the main speakers (the subs connect to the main amplifier’s speaker terminals). To compensate for the low frequency roll-off induced by the crossover, the response of the 2Wq’s amplifier is contoured to restore the low frequencies to the proper level. The 2Wq’s input impedance is high enough that it has no effect on the output of the main amplifier.
