VPI JMW tone arms like this one are rarely offered. Here’s your chance to get one with or without spare armtubes. There are many enhancements and accessories including a brand new pivot point assembly (plus a spare), a Soundsmith “Counter Intuitive,” a really good phono cable (RCA/RCA) and more.

The tonearm itself was originally designated the model 10.5i when I bought it new. It’s hard to keep up with VPI nomenclature, but this is the in-between length — longer than 9”, shorter than 12” — with a pivot-point to spindle distance of 262mm. Importantly, it provides precise and easy VTA/SRA adjustment DURING PLAY. Mounting is simple, requiring only 3 small bolts (included). The arm base will accept one of the new JMW 3D printed arms (not included).

The new pivot point assembly is sharp as a needle. VPI doesn’t make a big deal about this but the pivot point in any unipivot arm eventually gets duller, and you can hear the difference. Also included is the old pivot point assembly which, although I was told it can’t be done, I managed to sharpen.

Here are the 4 parts to the package I’m offering:

Part 1 SOLD—The complete tone arm base allowing VTA/SRA adjustment while playing, and one armtube with Discovery wiring. Included are all necessary hardware; a Ken Willis “AccuTrak” protractor offering 3 alignment choices, specific to this arm; the original JMW alignment jig; the Soundsmith “Counter intuitive”; VPI and Soundsmith instruction sheets; and what’s left of the original VPI damping fluid (enough for several damping cup fill-ups if you decide to use it). Price $1,100.

Part 2, SALE PENDING — A second 10.5i armtube like the one above, but with Nordost wiring. These currently have a VPI MSRP of around $900. This one comes with a custom built oak “cradle” (see pic). Price: $550

Part 3 — Another armtube, originally for a VPI Classic 1 or 2 but works perfectly with this arm. It was bought direct from VPI. Note (in the pic) that the finger lift comes out at a slightly bent angle. You might be able to straighten the finger lift but I never bothered. It works fine. Price: $350.

Part 4 — Morrow Audio PH-3 shielded phono cable, 1m length, with copper Eichmann Bullet Plug terminations. Perfect condition. Price: $125

NOT INCLUDED: any armboard or phono cartridge.
