Here is a nice pair of very good to excellent GE 5751 tubes (that can often sub for your 12AX7 tubes). These both test very good and test close. On my trusty Hickok transconductance tube tester, a test result of 32 represents a 65% good tube. On this tester new tubes yield about 48. One of these 5751 tubes tested at 42 & 44; the other tested 44 & 48. This definitely indicates a very good pair of 5751 tubes. These both have matching date codes of "KT 188-5" as well. The included GE boxes have a bit of wear at the top flaps, requiring a bit of tape inside, but they are definitely original boxes. The tubes are the gray plate variety of 5751 tubes and they are not triple mica types. They have two mica discs, dual micas, above and below the gray plate structure. Looking closely at the inside tops of the tubes, these industrial strength, studio grade 5751s have the "Pan Getter" type top structure. Unlike earlier vintage, black plate, high gain tube types, which tend to sound more forward and brighter sounding then their equivalent gray plate varieties, IMHO; I find that the gray plate tube types, like these, sound more natural and neutral in our hifi applications.
On sale here is a nice sounding, strong + matched pair of these sought after, premium grade type 5751 tubes.
