ECC32, or CV 181, a 6SN7 equivalent, well, not exactly, but close with slightly higher gain. Highly sought after, these are NOS, and new in original box, Mullard made.Date code is 1185, and bottom etched ( screened in this case) line is B2 indicating a Blackburn made tube towards the end of the Mullard factory's life. Coke bottle shaped of course, and with a lightly smoked glass envelope. Get one of the rarest and most sought after 6SN7 equivalents. six available. The Chinese PSVane copies run well over $100. Now's your chance to get the original. Prices as high as $300 each as seen on Ebay......Why buy Chinese when you can get the original? On the old Rec.Audio.Tubes, I had a running dispute with a gentleman from England whose English source book listed this tube as having a common cathode. Visual inspection and testing revealed this NOT to be the case, and finally we traced the source and found it to be in error. It is a true dual triode with separate elements like a 6SN7. Tubes available are not matched. Close but not really precisely the same. For most applications as a voltage amp, this has not been an issue at all. Perhaps when used as a phase splitter there may be some sonic differences, but I couldn't hear any.
