Here is a nice sounding, very strong testing, matched pair of two genuine Telefunken ECC83/12AX7 tubes. These are the legendary smooth plate type, with the molded diamond and date codes impressed on the glass bottoms. These test strong and test closely matched. On my trusty Hickok transconductance tube tester, a test result of 32 represents a 65% good tube while new tubes of this type typically yield 50 or higher per triode.
The first tube, dated <18 over 2>, tests at 52 & 52 and shows its' well rubbed Telefunken logo. The second tube dated <23 over 2> also tests at 52 & 52 and also shows a rubbed Telefunken logo. Note that this pair of tubes has a seamed, also known as ridged top. Let us call this Pair # 2S. These tubes passed the Shorts and Gas tests plus show very strong "Life Test" results when filament voltage is lowered during testing; confirming these are only lightly used tubes. A brief listening test in my phono preamp verifies a very nice sounding, non-microphonic, matched pair of phono grade, genuine Telefunken tubes. This set of two Telefunken ECC83/12AX7 tubes will easily last for more than a few years, probably a decade or more.
