Here is an Accuphase T-101 tuner modified by Antenna Performance Specialties. I bought the tuner several years ago, and sent it to APS for modifications and alignment. Better quality and matched IF filters were installed. This lowered the noise floor, and makes the tuner much more selective, and increased the sensitivity. The tuner was aligned, and all electrolytics were replaced with Blackgates (as you can see from photos). The RCA jacks were replaced by gold plated copper ones, and it was modified for a standard IEC connector, so you can use the power cord of your choice (not supplied). IIRC these mods cost right at $600.00. Unfortunately my camera refused to give me a good shot of the APS sticker, but you can see it on the back of the tuner. Although I forgot to photograph it, APS also sent a service manual as well.

APS (no longer in business) was one of the best tuner folks around when I sent it in for the mods. I have never fired it up until a few days ago to test. The reason I've never installed it is that I live in central Texas, and have quite the lightening problem (really severe storms). Just in the last couple of years, I've had two very damaging strikes, so I have been hesitant about installing a big antenna outside my home. That would make an even better target for the storms, also I'll use the money from this to help finance a DIY turntable project.

I did test the tuner for about 20 minutes, and even with a cheap pair of rabbit ears it would bring in lots of stations, and the tuning was very precise. I'm a long time DIY audiophile, and hooked it to one of my high end tube amps and some monitors. Admittedly the sound was a little bright, but to be expected with all those brand new Blackgates in there. I'd suggest making some dummy loads for the RCAs, and let it play for 100 hours or so, that will help break in the caps, greatly improve the musicality of the piece.

Cosmetically it is in overall great shape, the front is pretty much perfect. I have included photos of the main blemishes, the worst on the black top, and the photo shows it as much worse than it actually is. There is also a scratch (shown in photos) on the brushed finish molding, at the very top. Other than that, there are a few very minor scratches in the black paint on the top. Altogether I would call this excellent condition, considering it's age. A wooden case, and it would look perfect, but very nice as is. I have about $1,000 in this, and will let it go for $500, plus shipping at cost, via UPS insured, to location (around 15-25 dollars depending on location). I will ship this within 2 working days after receiving the funds, and will be packed very well. Funds via PayPal please.
