The Ariston RD-11 E is actually a Fons turntable with the Ariston name on it, which is OK as they both were designed by Hamish Robertson. This is a little snazzier than the normal Ariston’s, it has a strobe and adjustable speed controls. The platter is a one piece affair that has no holes in it, you need to put the new belt on the platter and then before you lower it all the way put it on the pulley. This is a two speed table; 33 & 45.
This one is in good shape and has an upgraded Sumiko MMT arm with an upgraded external DIN cable and the Sumiko headshell with azimuth control & the silk wrapped Litz leads (all of these have been cryo treated to up the performance). (you can tell an MMT because it does not have the wording on the top of the arm pivot support & the different headshell)
The platter has had damping goop with powdered bronze poured into the bottom cavity for damping and added mass. The platter mat is cork with a sticky back that is applied to the platter, the mat has been painted with black vinyl paint… it sounds terrific.
The underside of the deck and sub deck have been damped, the plinth has slate tiles added for extra mass and damping, the grounded metal bottom cover has birch plywood supports and extra damping for good measure.
The dustcover is not the original, but it fits this table very well- the top had some deep scratches so we applied our “frosted look” where we use finer and finer sand paper to get the top nice and smooth, it offers an attractive appearance. It also comes with a vial of special oil to lube the bearing and shaft.
