The Nottingham philosophy is based on simplicity and using materials science to cancel out vibration.
The Dais incorporates a 50 lb. gravity spun iron platter (the platter is actually spun while casting to eliminate even the tiniest air pockets thereby insuring metallurgical consistency throughout the platter). Above it is a 1” thick graphite mat. The platter rests on a heavy duty bronze oil-pumping bearing.The low-torque, synchronous motor is always left "on". To start the turntable, simply give the platter a "push". The motor is then only required to overcome the minimal frictional losses of the high quality bearing assembly. Designer Tom Fletcher felt that a motor with enough torque to start a platter from a dead stop will contribute vibration when the platter is at speed. The high mass platter stabilizes the speed. The Dais also includes the Wave Mechanic power supply that provides an ultra-stable AC wave form to drive the motor.
This unit also has the incredible Ace Anna carbon fiber tone arm (which retails for $3,500) as an upgrade over the standard Ace Space. It is a uni-pivot design that tracks flawlessly. The Ace Anna Arm design uses side stabilizer bars and tiny ball bearing chases to maintain azimuth. A proprietary damping material is applied to the center pivot and the stabilizer bars. I have used it with ZYX UNIverse, Benz LP, and Benz Cardas Ruby Heart. They all sounded great.
This unit also comes with a second tonearm mount! The Dais is in excellent condition and I am the third owner (bought from a local friend). It performs with precision, an ultra-quiet noise floor, and supreme musicality. It will be packed carefully in its original box. Total weight is around 90 lbs. Shipping in continental US only with actual insured cost paid by buyer. Local pickup is of course available. Please see my other listing for a Nottingham Hyperspace, a more affordable entry point to Nottingham, but nonetheless an outstanding turntable (especially as fitted with the Ace Anna Arm and Wave Mechanic). I have owned the Nottingham Spacedeck, Hyperspace, and Dais. All wonderful turntables, but the Hyperspace is a world above the Spacedeck and nipping at the heels of the Dais.
