Everyone that owns a turntable knows that the TD-124 is considered one of the three best idler drive turntables ever built. The internet is full of articles written by fans of this model... the one that put Thorens on the map. There were two known weakness with the table, the motor & the plinth. On this one the motor was rebuilt by Smithinsilly (the best) and the high mass plinth was built by Cryo-Parts. It has a mahogany armboard that has not been drilled yet, we recommend getting one of our top arms to go with it if you don't already have your own (Link here). The bottom of the plinth is alternating layers of birch plywood and MDF, the top is solid red grandis (which matches the mahogany very well). All of the moving parts have been lubricated, the idler has been reconditioned, and it has a new belt. There are new suspension mushrooms, but I would suggest trying it without them as the plinth is heavy. The table is in very good condition and is all there- including the original 45 adapter - which you can install if you want, and the balance bubble even works! The platter has the second top part that allows you to keep the motor running and switch records... this light weight platter top is not used by many 124 owners, but this one is damped with metal loaded plastic to keep vibration at a minimum.
For the first time we are offering turntables without an arm so you can chose your own based on performance and price, please take a minute to look at our offerings on the site.
