This analog set-up has made for some wonderful listening, but I recently down-sized and just do not have the space for a dedicated music system and the hundreds of LPs that go with it.
I am hoping to sell the entire turntable set-up as a package deal, rather than going through the trouble of selling it piecemeal. This is an ideal turn-key opportunity for someone looking to get into quality vinyl performance without the outrageous costs of new equipment.
The Yamaha YP-D8 is a direct drive, auto-off turntable that was second to the top-of-the-line in its day. This unit is in truly excellent condition and all functions work they should. The dustcover has a bit of swirls and light scratching, but it has no cracks and the hinges work as they should. The filament line for the anti-skate mechanism failed about a year ago, so I replaced it with thread and it's been fine ever since. This heavy table has an effective mechanism for adjusting VTA.
The tonearm is sound. It allows for detachable headshells. I am including two headshells -- the original Yamaha shell and the highly regarded Sumiko HS-12. The Sumiko shell has Sumiko lead wires on it.
I have been using two cartridges in my system -- one of them solely for LPs that have questionable surfaces. For those lower quality LPs, I have an Audio Technica AT95E mounted to the Yamaha headshell. The AT95E has about 50 hours on it. For the majority of my LPs, I recently "upgraded" to a Denon DL-110 high-output MC cart (which can be used with an MM phono stage). The DL-110 replaced a cartridge that retails for twice as much; but the Denon sounded better! It's a musical, balanced cart, and I have put no more than 30 hours on it.
The package also includes:
** the fantastic, user friendly AccuTrak Arc Protractor made by Ken Willis specifically for this turntable;
** a JA Michell Record Clamp to secure LP to table;
** a digital scale for setting tracking force;
** a carbon fiber brush (same as the Hunt, but a no name brand); and
** 4/5 of a quart bottle of AI 1-step Cleaning Fluid #6. (Only with local pickup or delivery.)
So, why am I asking $595?
I have seen YP-D8 tables in similar condition sell for $350 and more on various audiophile sites and eBay. I owned one previously that was not quite in as good a shape as this one (I sold it when I found this one) and I sold it with a single, aftermarket headshell for $375.
The Sumiko HS-12 retails for $100, and the Sumiko headshell leads retail for $25.
The Denon DL-110 is now selling new for $299. (I was fortunate enough to purchase mine just before the price increase.)
The AT95E is an over-achiever that sells new for $40.
The custom-made AccuTrak Arc Protractor cost $50.
The JA Michell LP Clamp sells new for $59.
The digital scale cost me $27 (although it's the same one that some audiophile online stores sell for 3 times as much!).
The carbon fiber brush costs $25.
The AI #6 cleaning fluid (1 quart) sells for $29.
Ideally, this will be a sale to someone within 100 miles of Keene, NH. I am willing to deliver or welcome you to come pick it up. Depending on distance, I may ask for some additional $ to cover gas & tolls.
Thanks very much for taking the time to read this ad.
