Fully functional, lovely pair of 15 watt monos matched to their proper preamplifier. I bought the amps first, then added the preamp soon afterwards. Swapping the amps and preamp around with other brands of gear has demonstrated that these pieces genuinely belong together. For example:
- The sound is more even (flat) across the entire frequency range
- The preamp's noise floor is lower when connected to the Classics
- The preamp's gain is more linear with the Classics, providing a greater usable range of the volume knobAmps include the following valves:
- GEC EF86s (unknown hours, but test high in the Good range on my Knight tube checker)
- Mullard GZ32s (as above) Note: since these valves are broader through the hips than the stock GZ34 (5AR4), the cages will not slide down into place.
- Gold Lion KT66s (I purchased a new matched quad, now around 100 hours) The QC24 phono input is line-level only. I had my Hagerman phono pre running into that.
The preamp incorporates a 5VDC trigger jack (1/8" stereo), enabling auto-on/off of the amps when connected to my PS Audio Quintet. Has a minor paint chip and faint scratch on one amp, and the scratched off paint on the volume knob by the previous owner (in order to see the notch better apparently). Buyer pays shipping and PP fee, if using goods/services. Includes:
Owner's manual, tube cages, power cords, original shipping boxes.
