A superb preamplifier from CJ which happens to be SS. This is a special preamp for several reasons. First it is a CJ, next the circuit is modeled after the Motif preamps they made, which are still considered superb sounding devices. Finally, it is one of the few CJ made with a black faceplate. Works well with tube amp or SS amp. Great resolution with a hint of warmth. The phono stage is worth 800.00 plus alone. Just an excellent phono stage. A huge soundstage, great bass and superb detail. All film caps used, including power supply, detachable AC cord. RCA Jacks in great shape.
This was just serviced by Bill Thallman of Music Technology, who worked for Conrad to doJohnson many years, and was on the design team for this preamplifier. He replaced any out of spec parts, which included the power transformer, and other parts. Total was in the 500.00 range. Check now on eBay. There is a PF2L for 1700.00....no phono.....My unit is Very quiet, and pots are silent, no scratchy sounds. Performs better than the Calypso it replaced, but don't get me wrong. The Calypso had it's magic as well.
