I am moving on to another DIY project and putting up my beloved DIY speaker for sale.

It is a 2 way with the following components:

Altec 802B 1" compression drivers from the 1950's Altec 32B Horn (metal) Jensen P15LL's 15" woofers w matching "Miller Sound" cones. 6cu ft cabinet made of 3/4 inch Baltic Birch Plywood and thick Walnut veneer.

The crossover is still in "Bread Board" state. Which means it can easily be changed to suit your room and taste w/out solder... You will only need a screw driver to change the resister values and the various caps. I will provide resisters to finely tune the woofer/ tweeter integration. I have experimented exhaustively with caps, resisters and coils. I have tuned these to my taste but it would be very easy to roll your own caps to experiment with different variations of tone.

These speakers sound awesome! To me, they have a perfect balance of resolution and tone weight. The 32 horn integrates perfectly with the woofer with a very smooth yet dynamic presentation. I think the efficiency is around 98db with both drivers at 16ohm. My room is challenged but the presentation is very "out of the box" and imaging is as good as my room can offer. The best mid-range I've ever heard w delicate floating high notes that decay naturally out of the speaker. Bass is also terrific with full, meaty tone and dynamics that loads the room in a way that makes music exciting and more alive.

These will responded to every tweak I try. I put a new power cord on my pre-amp recently and the difference was easily noticeable.

If you want a more of a "finished" speaker, I can have the crossovers put in a permanent enclosure w everything soldered and buttoned down. The cost of that will be an additional $200. But, I would recommend you get the speakers in your room and swap out the resisters for a few months to dial in the woofer and then have the xovers "finished".

The cabinets are not perfect. But as you can see from the pictures they are absolutely gorgeous. Upon request, I will provide hi-rez pictures from every angle w further descriptions of cosmetics.

The "2x4's feet" in the pictures are gone and have been replaced w a "floating" decoupling system that is very effective (see picture of the bottom of the speaker). I have suspended floors and much experimentation was done to come up with the best sounding stands. They involve a cement platform that may be too heavy to ship but will be glad to further discuss upon request. If you have concrete slabs, then spikes might be worth a try and easily installed.

Here's my cost breakdown:

Altec 802B's $2000

Altec 32B Horn $500

Jensen P15LL- w Miller Sound matching cones installed- $1000

Xover components- $500

Cabinet- $3000

Wire and Silver CNC Speaker terminals- $200

Labor and design- literally 100's of hours and "priceless"

Comparable commercial speaker of this caliber start at $15,000 (Shindo Petite's start at $35k)and go up dramatically. And they wont have 1/4 inch oiled walnut veneer and vintage custom matched drivers and oil caps from the 1950's. This is a bespoke custom made tuned speaker with hand picked vintage and modern components that create a tone that cannot be heard in modern commercially built speakers. This offering is for connoisseurs.

For serious and vetted buyers, you will be invited into my home to have a listen with my Eico HF-60 amps, or, bring your own amps. I am hoping for a local buyer as these are very heavy.

If I have to ship... buyer to pay for shipping, packaging, insurance. Shipping weight is a guess. I expect custom packaging to be around $100. Will entertain personal delivery from Atlanta... distance and costs to be determined.

Add 3.5%m for paypal. Other types of payments can be arranged.

I can do a package deal w the highly modified Eico HF-60's which have some of the finest Output Tranny's on the planet. These are not your typical HF-60's... Bespoke vintage and premium modern components voiced to perfection as a mate to these speakers. Please inquire.

I have a long and perfect history of feedback on both Ebay and Audiogon. Inquire for my user names at those sites.

I will be glad to discuss further by phone, just send me a PM. If you want to discuss design for your diy, send me an email and I'll be glad share my experience.

Thanks for looking- Doug
