The US (Army) Signal Corps developed a film system for the Korean War. It had a 16 mm film projector, 6L6 PP amp and 8 inch speaker. They were all built with metal cases for use in battleground conditions. This is the only source of the Jensen P8P speakers I know of.This is one of the cleanest examples I have seen. I took it out of the metal case very carefully. I find that it is much safer to remove the magnet cover and hold it by the magnet. Most of the speaker case is devoted to storage of cables, and the speaker baffle area is small. I figured that any modern 8" speaker could be used in that case with reasonable results. The P8P was going to be a special project for me that I never got around to. With a big magnet it should be efficient. With the phenolic dust cap it should have extended highs. But what about bass? Notice the vent holes in the frame behind the cone - they are blocked with treated fabric that limits cone excursion. I wanted to get a pair of these and remove the fabric screens for hi-fi experiments. I am reluctant to make any permanent modification to vintage equipment, and, since these screens are mounted from the inside, it would be impossible to restore. I never got around to it. The line on the cone is just a drip from original assembly. Thanks for looking.
