This machine runs beautifully and sounds absolutely incredible. The A810 is an absolute workhorse of a machine and will last forever if maintained properly. This unit is now ready for it's second life. An original Studer manual in red hard binder is included with purchase. A full refurbishment, including calibration and alignment, was completed on the machine in March by Studer-trained technician Roger Ginsley who specializes in Studer A810 refurbishment. Among the items serviced within the past six weeks include -
• All electrolytic capacitors on every audio and transport card have been replaced (Panasonic FC 105C and Vishay-BC)
• MPU battery was replaced and firmware was updated to 2588
• All bearings replaced within the transport, including the reel motor bearings
• Heads relapped (NAB heads) using the very rare and extremely precise Studer alignment blocks - very few techs globally have these - photos of the heads will be uploaded soon but they look perfect
• VU lamps changed
• brakes and tension adjusted
• capstan shaft oiled
• The machine was calibrated for SM900 and SM911 tape types A detailed report will accompany the machine with purchase. The report also contains the hexadecimal values for each of the calibration settings for owner records or reload in the future if the new Varta battery is ever replaced again. Hubs and reels pictured are not included. The original Studer console is available free of charge to the buyer if you would prefer the machine in horizontal configuration, but it will increase the cost of shipping due to its dimensional size and weight. The machine can be wired for direct output from the playback head to your choice of external tape pre-amp (Doshi and King Cello are two popular examples) after purchase by John French at JRF Magnetics. Local pickup is preferred. We can also arrange courier transport along the east coast at actual cost and can also personally deliver and setup the A810 between DC and NYC for a reasonable cost. Common carrier shipping is also available at actual cost that will include professional packing and shipping to fully insured value with signature confirmation via Fedex Ground. International shipping is also available at actual cost, though use of a Pelican case or custom crate, purchased at buyer's expense, may be mandatory to ensure safe shipment and arrival.
