Custom Thorens TD-124 turntable serial no. 45816, with SME 3009 Series 2 tonearm and Shure V-15 VxMR in custom plinth. The turntable itself has been completely restored and is 100% fully functional without any issues. Plug and play ready. You can expect this turntable to be operating trouble free for many years and my asking price is reflective of this and the costs of everything involved in the restoration.
For the restoration, every AudioSilente part available was utilized. Additionally the turntable motor has been completely rebuilt with new bronze bushings installed, sintered bronze bearing for the stepped pulley, new main platter bearing and thrust plate, the works. The cost of restoration parts alone nearing $1500. All this work adds up to a true sonic masterpiece with world class performance and sound quality. The classic SME 3009 Series 2 “non-improved” version tonearm is also in excellent condition, fully functional, no issues whatsoever and sounds phenomenal with the included Shure V-15 VxMR cartridge and stylus. This SME 3009 Series 2 arm is complete with interconnect cables, bias weight, rider weight, original SME headshell, mounting template, and the additional Ebony wood headshell with silver headshell leads is also included. Shure V-15VxMR cartridge is also free of defects, cantilever is straight, sounds great, and has lots of life left on the stylus. The multilayer laminate piano black plinth was fabricated from cabinet grade Baltic birch plywood and sits on large leveling isolation feet. There are some minor imperfections and dings in the plinth form normal use, nothing serious as you can see in the images. The addition of the multilayer plinth adds mass, isolation from mechanical vibration, and structural solidity which translates into solid life like sound quality. It’s time to move this incredible machine on towards someone who will truly appreciate it and time for me begin a new turntable restoration project which is the reason for the sale. ’ve spent many years using, setting up, maintaining, and restoring vintage high end turntables and high end audio equipment.
