Bel Canto's current flagship, reference digital system. All 1 owner (me) bought new. This listing includes the DAC3.5VB MKII, VBS1 Supply for DAC, Reflink USB to SPDIF Converter, VB Ref DC Cable from Supply to DAC. Also included is the 12' $100 Bel Canto ST Fiber Cable for connecting the Reflink to the DAC. The performance of this connection far rivals using any SPDIF or AES/EBU Cable from Reflink to DAC. I compared it to many, and they did not come close to this. I also have a shorter length ST Fiber Cable I will throw in for those that do not need 12'. All original boxes, packing, manuals, remote, and cables. Everything is flawless in like new condition, lovingly taken care of in an ideal audio lifestyle. Would like to sell as a system. I believe it all belongs together. Some notes on my experiences with this setup:
Rivaled many DAC's that I have tried for PCM Playback, and even DSD! Including: Chord QuteHD,
EMM Labs DAC2X,
Wyred 4 Sound DAC2DSD SE
To admit, playing DSD through the Chord, EMM, and the W4S DAC's brought them very close to the Bel Canto's PCM only performance, but I still preferred the sound of the Bel Canto rig even only able to play PCM. The Bel Canto is a PCM Champion. It just had more magic in the midrange than the others, with a deep black background. It literally locks in within the soundstage, and is so dense and solid in its performance. Images never wander and are extremely focused with body and weight. Each recording is different depending on how they were mastered. Easily translating venue size with awesome vinyl like transparency, with no digital artifacts I can detect. If the recording is good, things are amazing. If the recording is bad, it extracts the best from them never losing composure, keeping the music enjoyable. I also used Audirvana that auto converts DSD to PCM with fantastic results. Any format sounds great through the Bel Canto. CD's, Rips, High Resolution.... Some DAC's have a sweet spot or zone they are capable of shining, while the Bel Canto shines in any format if the recording is good. The Bel Canto is an unsung hero IMO, and for its price, a relative bargain compared to more costly comers. A great trick is the Reflink. It takes the computer out of the equation almost entirely, however I did notice slight differences in USB Cables and servers. It pays to get good stuff in front of it. However, Reflink does its thing well on anything. Using Mac or PC never took the musicality away. Even different music player software that is bit perfect, I could detect little if any differences. Even ITunes sounds great..
Also worthy of mention is the ability for direct connection to amps. The volume control in the DAC is very well done, with plenty of drive. It bested any preamp I threw at the system. I don't know how they did it, but it works amazingly well this way. You are getting a plug and play front end that is world class. Just the ability to eliminate a preamp is worth the asking price. No feedback here, but have sold plenty on Audio Karma(ManyMoonsAudio), Ebay (buddy1jackrussel), Audio Circle (paul79), with perfect feedback. Buy with confidence.
