“In a word, the Usher Audio S-520 sounded fabulous. Is it the nirvana of small speakers? Maybe not quite. But it’s the closest to my goal of finding a really good small speaker that I’ve heard. Its reproduction is detailed, yet still able to produce a full sound in which the instruments that are supposed to blend (say, massed strings) come out sounding as one -- and its finish is worthy of a top-of-the-line speaker. Yet $479/pair can’t be considered egregiously expensive. The Usher S-520 is the small speaker to seriously consider.” These speakers sound very, very good, there’s absolutely no doubt about that, and I am sure that this is the major reason they’ve been so successful in the past … and will continue to be successful for Usher into the future. However, I think there are other very important reasons for their popularity. The first of these
is undoubtedly the very reasonable retail price, one that on a ‘sound-quality for your dollar’ basis, puts the Usher S-520s right up there in the upper echelons of desirability. The second is the absolutely superb build quality, which is rare to find in any loudspeaker at this price-point. From Hi-Fi World —
Usher has come along and thrown an impressive curveball into the market, serving up a composed and detailed, yet exciting and dynamic budget loudspeaker. The nominal 8 Ohm impedance and reasonable sensitivity will ensure wide amplifier compatibility and the S-520s were a pleasure to audition. I feel they are more than good enough to make some of the more established British players in the budget loudspeaker market sit up and take note - highly recommended!
