I am the original owner of these classic studio monitors. No work has ever been done to them. They are in perfect condition and sound magnificent. I will forward photos to interested buyers.
The cabinets are a rich American Black Walnut. The grille material is acoustically transparent knitted cloth stretched over a wooden frame. They are offered with the original detailed service manual which contains full electronic schematics and parts list. The top of one cabinet has some light surface scratches, otherwise they are without defect.
They just don't make monitors like this anymore. I have owned the pair since 1984. They were in use in a professional recording studio environment for ten years, then they were in climate-controlled storage for eight years. For the past four years they have been on loan to Trew Audio as the main listening loudspeakers in their Service Department in Nashville, and they have performed flawlessly while being driven by a huge range of different power amps by McIntosh, Nagra Audio, ARCAM and Plinius.
Trew Audio is an authorized service center for a wide variety of audiophile gear. Steve George, Trew Audio's service technician, has this to say about these Tannoy monitors: "Their accuracy has helped us ensure that each repair was on the money, and revelaing enough to catch a few amplifier flaws requiring a trip back to the bench. They give back a smooth, musical presentation and are very forgiving as to positioning."
