Anyone familiar with Hickok tube testers is well aware that the 539B is the King with the 539C being the granddaddy of them all! The ONLY difference between the B & C versions is the ability to test some obscure tube types not commonly found in most vintage audio products! This tester has been rebuilt and calibrated per the Daniel Schoo method and is in excellent working condition! EVERY control was removed, taken apart, cleaned, shafts and bushings polished and lubed and reassembled. Every resistor checked to be within tolerance, every capacitor checked, the main pushbutton switch bank was completely disassembled, cleaned, lubed and reassembled. The main rotary knob section had the mechanicals rebuilt in a similar fashion and a Teflon slip sheet added to the back side of the front panel to help make the rotation of the number dials smoother! Trust me you will not feel smoother switches on ANY Hickok! I would even bet they weren’t this smooth in 1956! Over 120 hours went into the rebuild of this tester! Bulbs have been checked and the proper bulbs are in the unit. Comes with a roll chart dated 1961. the top of the chart where it attaches to the roller had been torn. I used some wide clear packing tape to fix the rip and reattach it to the roller. The chart now rolls smoothly from top to bottom but gets a little tight at the extreme ends as is pretty common with most Hickok’s. I even advanced the paper to allow for extra slack so it wouldn’t be so tight. The power cord was replaced with a 3 wire cord for safety. Most if not all hardware such as screws, bolts nuts etc have been replaced or cleaned. The case is in good condition but I would not call it great. Better then most I have seen! Insides are very clean. Please email me for additional photos. I have many details photos and close-ups of the insides, outsides, unit in action etc! I will include tons of information with the tester as well. A copy of the owners manual, a copy of a manual purchased here on eBay with all the details you could ever want. Plus copies of the Daniel Schoo Articles detailing calibration procedure and update modifications you can make for this unit to improve accuracy even farther! I opted to keep the unit as original as possible rather then make the updates.
I hate to sell this tester after so much time and effort went into it but being out of work sort of forces your hand! I would rate this a 8.5 for cosmetic condition. $750 plus shipping. Paypal and US shipping only.
