I'm culling my tube herd. Many of you know what it's like - hoarding. Well, I'm de-hoarding now. Here on-offer is the distinctive RCA 12AU7A cleartop. The RCA 12AU7A cleartop is a tube to have in the caddy of any 12AU7 user. There're two different "types/styles" of RCA 12AU7A cleartop. This tube was manufactured from approximately the mid-1960s to the end of RCA tube production in the mid-1970s. They were produced in more than one factory and in more than one country. Here're the two RCA 12AU7A cleartop types, all US-made: - Square side getter (of course) with "plain" mica wafers.
- Square side getter (of course) with "crescent" cut outs in the mica wafers.
Here's a listing of what's available, by type: "Plain" mica wafer -
- 84/98:56 - $15.00
- 79/75:56 - $14.00
"Crescent" cut out mica wafer -
- 103/101:56 - $27.00; could be NIB/unused
- 64/90:56 - $8.00
- 64/67:56 $8.00
I can't tell you how any tube will sound to your ears in your gear. No one can. My experience has shown me that there's a tube for every system, and a system for every tube. Often, many different tubes will yield great results in a given system. And it's not always the tubes with the most vaunted reputations - usually carrying the highest prices - that sound best. Keeping mind and ears open is good practice for discovering what you like best. I'm selling all as used. All the tubes have been contientously and carefully tested on a professionally serviced and calibrated tube tester (a TV-7D/U, Hickok RD-1575, Hickok 6000A, Heathkit TT-1). The above listed test results are from a Dan Nelson-serviced TV-7D/U. Let's talk (or email), see what you want to do, and come to exactly what you want. Negotiation is welcomed. Cheers! - SJ
